The high pitch screech from mechanical pencils
are one of the most annoying sounds in the world!
a.
Rather than focusing on my work my mind is zoned
in on the sounds around me. I can’t
focus or cancel out the noise, all that my I’m paying attention is the sound of
screeching and squealing pencils.
2.
People who block foot traffic by standing at the
exit/entrance of a building waiting for people.
a.
Their actions are preventing people from being
able to get out of a building swiftly.
Instead by them standing in the doorway it takes ten times longer
causing people to get frustrated. I
suppose that this bothers me because I find it rude.
3.
I can’t hear or understand people when they are
mumbling during a conversation or when they answer or ask a question.
a.
I can’t hear you, I don’t have the ability to
read lips, so please do not be mad when I ask you to repeat what you just
said. As I said in #1 I struggle with
canceling out sounds, so when a person mumbles it takes a huge amount of effort
to focus in on what they are saying.
4.
Every time I see that someone has not washed
their hands after going to the restroom it drives me insane.
a.
I find this unsanitary and rude toward the people
around them. I start to think of
everything that they touch throughout the day that other people will as
well. They are basically transferring germs that could make
you sick!
5.
People complaining about a crying baby on a
plane.
a.
Look I’ll be honest, I don’t like the sound
either. But guess what, I have headphones! I prepare ahead of time to create a less
stressful environment for myself. When
people complain about babies it’s more annoying than the actual baby crying. Do they realize that at one point they were a
baby? You don’t pop out as an
adult. I guarantee you that the
parent is not purposely letting their child cry to make you angry.
6.
The sound from people eating with their mouth
open.
a.
The sound of mush in a person’s mouth is not
appealing, and it makes my blood boil.
Going back to what I said in #1 I can’t cancel out the sound that is
annoying me.
7.
Going for a run or working out and my socks
begin to slide down.
a.
While I run my socks literally are coming off my
feet. The sock begins to slide down my
heel and bunch up under my foot. The
company who has made this sock and has marketed it as being one of the “best
socks for everyday and exercise” has stolen my money. They lied to me and I fell for it. They took my $14.00 and in exchange I get 2
pairs of useless socks.
8.
People constantly nagging at you on how you
should be living just because you’re not doing the same things they are.
a.
Where I
worked, my coworkers were constantly criticizing me for being introverted. I was completely opposite of them! I like to be in calm
environments, I’m pretty quiet, I’m not a partier, and I’m modest. Every time I worked with them they would
shame me for this, and not having a boyfriend, or not getting
drunk. I felt alienated from them because
they were constantly judging me and I felt uncomfortable. I don’t understand why people have to be so cruel
and discredit others for not being like them.
9.
Every night it takes me up to an hour to fall
asleep because of the sound my pillow makes.
a.
This one might seem strange to everyone but it
is real! I have tried everything besides
ear plugs (I won’t hear my alarm clock) but nothing seems to work. Any movement I make it results in my pillow
making a scratch noise. I can hear even
hear my hair rubbing against the material.
Once again this goes back to #1 and my OCD.
10.
Driving home is frightening! The construction on I-75 going south causes
so much traffic, the road is rough, and the barriers are so close to our
vehicles that it’s nerve-racking.
a.
While driving home I am less than a foot away of
hitting a concrete barrier for a straight hour and a half. I’m gripping the steering wheel for dear
life. When is this project going to be
done, it’s been two years? I’m sure that
I’m not the only one. I’m not the
biggest fan of driving. I never owned a
car until just last year (because my Grandma has dementia she’s not allowed to
drive so I have her car). It took me a
long time to get comfortable driving, I believe this might be why I’m
uncomfortable with high traffic zones.
11.
I don’t understand why people change their
voices around different groups.
a.
This one mainly applies to a person that I’ve
known my entire life. When she’s around
me she talks like her normal self, but then when she’s trying to impress people
or is around her friends she has this “valley girl” accent that is like
fingernails on a chalk board. I guess
that I see this as people not being genuine and acting a certain way for praise
or acceptance.
12.
The moment you need to use the restroom, you
open the door and it’s like playing Russian Roulette with bathroom stalls.
a.
I don’t understand why some businesses do not
take good care of their restrooms. Many
times customers will judge the quality of a business based on the cleanliness
of their bathrooms. For example, I will
never go to Winn Dixie ever again just based off of one experience. I would rather drive an extra couple miles to
a Publix than go to the Winn Dixie right up the street. It’s gross and repulsive when an
establishment restrooms are not maintained.
13.
The size of lecture class tables makes it difficult
to do work and take notes.
a.
The size of some of these lecture hall’s tables is ridiculous. How do they expect us to
do our work if the piece of paper doesn’t even fit on the table? When I work on homework or study I spread all
of my papers out. I’m not one for working
in tight quarters. It’s overwhelming and
I don’t feel organized.
14.
Sidewalks that aren’t level causing me to trip.
a.
I am a complete klutz and sidewalks can prove to
be a hazard sometimes. To prove how much
tripping is a danger for me I once broke my finger tripping over a sprinkler. When
I was younger I use to have to walk two miles back home from school and I can
tell you I have embarrassed myself upon multiple occasions tripping on the sidewalk. The entire time I
am walking I have to look down. I need
to be more aware of my surroundings to prevent this.
15.
The pictures of food on Pinterest always look
delicious, but when you try to make them they don’t come out right.
a.
I’m not the best cook but I’m a decent
baker. When I follow a Pinterest recipe
and it doesn’t come out looking like the picture it makes me feel like I have
no culinary skills and never will. I use the same exact ingredients and I
follow each step, so why is it that my cookie is hard as a brick and
tasteless? Oh wait you didn’t mention
leave your egg out for an hour or make sure butter is not melted all the
way? Details people, details!
16.
People who hug you every time you see them.
a.
I am not a hugger. It makes me uncomfortable when I have to hug
people. I’ve always been this way, I
wish that a handshake was the form of greeting for everyone. I’d even be happy curtsying or bowing like
they did back in the day.
17.
Going on vacations and the showers do not have good
water pressure.
a.
Many hotels and cabins that claim their trying
to be Eco-friendly through conserving water have the worst showers! They have barely any water pressure, so it takes
me three times longer to rinse shampoo out of my hair. You do realize that more time in the shower
equals more water being used.
18.
It takes me so long to configure my images on
Google Blogger.
a.
On Google Blogger it will not allow you to move
images around freely. I wish they had
the same format as Microsoft Word when it comes to inserting pictures. It takes me extra time to prepare a
configuration that I’m ok with but do not necessarily like. I believe this is due to my OCD because I
like organization and structure.
19.
Watching the news and instead of talking baout
events going on they are discussing beauty products and celebrity gossip.
a.
I understand if they spend a minute or two on
non-news related items, but when they spend ten minutes having a run way show
for this year’s fashion trends I’m going to change the channel. I just want to know what’s going on in the
world or what the weather is going to be like.
20.
My cellphone’s headphone plug in is very
sensitive. The only way I can listen to
music or a podcast is if I sit still or if my phone is in my workout arm band.
a.
If anything bumps against the end of my
headphones Siri begins talking and disrupting everything. Sometimes it will switch me over to a different
radio station or skip through my podcast.
It’s distracting and frustrating.
I should probably go to the apple store and figure out how to fix
this.
Reflection
After coming up with a “Bug List” I have realized how much I
let my OCD and anxiety get to me. These
are the roots for most of my pet peeves from sounds to people not washing their
hands. It was not difficult to come up
with a list, but what was difficult was deciding which ones to keep and cut out. This bothered me on how
easily I was able to come up with a list.
I shouldn’t let so many things affect me because in the end it’s my
anxiety, OCD, and over thinking that cause these problems. I have learned that once something troubles
me, I turn all my focus and attention on it. I need to work on this because it is affecting
my confidence, ability to do work, and causing me to feel overwhelmed and anxious.
